CRM

Overview

We wanted to reduce any possible barriers prospective students may experience when considering applying to SFU.  With the help of the Constituent Relationship Manager by Salesforce, our recruitment and communication units can identify the prospective students and their application status which allows us to customize mass communication and to deliver it in a timely manner.

Project challenges and constraints

Salesforce provides a limited number of out of box component to build pages with and many of them require customization.

  • I was recruited after development was in progress so my usability suggestions were constrained with what was already developed or can be developed within the tight deadline.
  • Working with a team of 5 developers and as the only user experience designer, I had to quickly learn each developers approach to coding the community.
  • Though the community appears as one cohesive system, each page and component is developed in a different manner which I had to learn and then modify.
  • Was given 2 months to learn and implement changes to optimize usability on desktop, tablet and mobile.

Suggested site map improvements:

  1. Registration is not required for High School Visits. With over 300 scheduled visits, this should not be presented in the same table as Campus tours and info session. We removed High school visits and will include at a later date.
  2. “Create a Case” and “My Case” does not resonate with our audience and the language is not referenced in our webpages.

Suggested user flows and wireframes:

I began by segmenting the project in to 3 main user flows which allowed me to develop some quick wireframes. After numerous usability analysis of eCommerce and non-eCommerce sites, I was able to design the following user flows while being mindful of SFU’s user interface.
